FIVE of the older polyclinics will be upgraded and a new one will be built in Punggol; the subsidy cap for implants will double from $500 to $1,000; and a new specialist centre for geriatric care will be set up.
These are some of the improvements to healthcare Singaporeans can look forward to with the nearly $7 billion the Government is pumping into the sector in 2011.
Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan on Friday painted his masterplan for the next five to 10 years. The goal: to transform healthcare here 'to be among the best in the world'.
The top priority is to build up long-term care with more and better quality community hospitals, nursing homes and home healthcare.
The objective, he said, is so elderly people with chronic ailments 'have a good quality of life and avoid having to be hospitalised'. For those who do need hospital care, two new general hospitals will be built in Jurong and Sengkang, each with a community hospital next door.
